Psychometric Evaluation of Lexical Diversity Indices: Assessing Length Effects.
PURPOSE Several novel techniques have been developed recently to assess the breadth of a speaker's vocabulary exhibited in a language sample. The specific aim of this study was to increase our understanding of the validity of the scores generated by different lexical diversity (LD) estimation techniques. Four techniques were explored: D, Maas, measure of textual lexical diversity, and moving-av...
متن کاملHierarchies of Indices for Text
| We present an eecient implementation of a recently known index for text databases, when the database is stored on secondary storage devices such as magnetic or optical disks. The implementation is built on top of a new and simple index for texts called pat array (or suux array). Considering that text searching in a large database spends most of the time accessing external storage devices, we ...
متن کاملLexical Attraction for Text Compression
New methods of acquiring structural information in text documents may support better compression by identifying an appropriate prediction context for each symbol. The method of “lexical attraction” infers syntactic dependency structures from statistical analysis of large corpora. We describe the generation of a lexical attraction model, discuss its application to text compression, and explore i...
متن کاملInvestigating Lexical Substitution Scoring for Subtitle Generation
This paper investigates an isolated setting of the lexical substitution task of replacing words with their synonyms. In particular, we examine this problem in the setting of subtitle generation and evaluate state of the art scoring methods that predict the validity of a given substitution. The paper evaluates two context independent models and two contextual models. The major findings suggest t...
متن کاملStability Related Measures, Estimated Minimum Bit Lengths and True Minimum Bit Lengths for the Initial and Optimal Controller Realizations
We present a practical stability result for dynamical systems depending on a small parameter. This result is applied to a practical stability analysis of fast time-varying systems studied in averaging theory, and of highly oscillatory systems studied by Sussmann and Liu. Furthermore, the problem of practically stabilizing control affine systems with drift is discussed.
